Wavy Crockett

Who’s Been Surfing The Net (Or Netting The Surf)?

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

This eye-catching motif is a recurring theme on the sides of mini-van taxis around Langkawi, Malaysia. I first noticed it as we pushed our baggage trolleys out of the airport terminal when we flew in from Kuala Lumpur in July. Even though I had my camera within reach, I had to resist the urge to take the shot.

Sometimes a bloke just has to know his priorities, right? You’ve got the family around you and they’re relying on you to take you in the right direction and this is just not the right time to grab the camera. Me, I’m just trying to follow the person from the travel company who has met us at the airport and is taking us to our hotel.

But I need not have fretted. There were many more opportunities in the week we spent there. I didn’t have to wave goodbye to the shot.

Hi David,
reminds me of a surf logo I saw in Kauai years ago!

What a great design that is much nicer than our local black and yellow cabs, they look like motorised bees ..This is the trouble with photography you can lose yourself and become so absorbed in getting the shot, my family now know when I say "shall we go......." that it means a day of me with cameras, but hey ! there are worse things to do ... thank you so much for calling into my blog, I love new people and lots of comments. :0)

Striking design.
It is frustrating when you can't get to snap a photo when you feel like it.

Glad you had more opportunities to capture this logo. Any idea what it means?

I love the design--and I really enjoyed the narrative (as always)!

That's a great shot. I have noticed in Vancouver that all the bus shelters have a squiggly line on them, and yesterday I realized it was supposed to represent a wave in the ocean, and there are seagulls flying over it. Funny the things we see when we actually look.

David: That looks like a fun place to have visited. I hope to see more of the area through your camera.
