It's A Small World

That's What You Call A Song And A Dance

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

I recently attended a function hosted by the Peruvian Tourism authorities and all of us were given this little memento. It is a brightly coloured box, but when you open the little wooden doors, you see this miniature tableau inside. The bright patterns on both sides of this display are actually the doors after they are swung open. To me, it was a fascinating glimpse of a culture I would love to experience, both as a writer and as a photographer.

An intriguing memento. Peruvian culture and in particular its history is fascinating. Their culture still reflects the influence of the highly organized and civilized ancient Incas.

David, this is such a fascinating memento! It reminds me of the the "View-Master" that gave me such fascination as a child, offering me glimpses into other worlds--most often in the form of fairy tales.

If only there were a way to have all cultures assimilate and peacefully coexist, but retain their stories and traditions!

Perhaps this actually happens more than I realize. That would be a good thing.

Any gift is great isn't it. Cute, though i don't think they've heard of colour coding in their little wooden world.

David you know i like your blog very much and am looking forward to the party :) but one thing puts me off. After visiting here i cannot back space back to my own blog! So i have to go through the whole process again. Any idea why? Is it your way of trapping us all in here? lol

Hi David!

It's nice to meet you and check out your wonderful blog. Many nice colors for the eyes to absorb.
I've seen you comments around on other blogs visited.

I'm sorry I missed your comment on my craft blog: The steel corset (12/5). I'm afraid it's been a bit neglected. echotree.blogspot is my main.

You should be able to find Crackle paint in any craft store, probably next to the acryllics. Have fun giving it a try!

I love this peruvian tableau! It's right up my alley.

-Take Care,
P

You can buy those things at a store here in Santa Fe. They are so sweet!

That's very pretty and colorful! My question is...how do you have time to attend functions, write books and keep this blog going? And now you are planning a big party! I may be on the road so I'm not sure if I'll be able to attend.

We had exchange students from Brazil and Ecuador when our kids were younger. The Ecuadoran student brought us some really cute little sculptures of buses like the people travel on. They were piled high with everything from chickens to furniture, and had open sides. We have often thought it would be interesting to visit some of those places. Gifts from other countries are always welcome at Miller Manor, too!
