A Touch Of Glass

Some Days He's Up, Some Days He's Down

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

What’s yellow and black and seldom stays still - but is not an advertising gimmick for Bee Movie? Here’s a clue - it only travels up and down. Not sideways. Not diagonally.

It has doors that open and close, and it covers a lot of ground every day, yet it never moves from where it is located.

Okay, so it’s a lift at Federation Square, here in Melbourne. But because it’s got glass on all four sides, it looks a bit different from the norm.

The Metro (subway) here has similar glass enclosed devices to get us to the trains below. Not as colorful though.

Very nice capture of the everyday norm. How neat though, made of all glass!

Hi David,

Thanks for stopping by. I was trying to figure out what it was by the image decals but no success.

I'll stop in and peruse soon to get an idea what's on your menu.

Have a good weekend.

U

I was a bit thrown off by the symbols on the side... it looks like you can go up and down, drink alcohol, boat and take pictures in that glass box. Now that would be an amazing thing! ;) Fun.

They have all glass elevators in some of the big city airports. They are pretty cool to ride in. Nice perspective.

Some of our shopping mall lifts have glass on all sides so that you can see the occupants and it is less claustrophobic for the occupants, I think.
Makes an unusual picture..

Ah...once again your cleverness got the better of me (course, it's almost 4 in the morning here, so maybe I have an excuse this time)!!

Great snap my friend!

I've always loved riding in glass elevators (harks back to a childhood love of Roald Dahl I suppose) but have mainly seen them in shopping malls and the occasional swanky hotel. A cityscape would make for a much nicer ride.

Very cool. I love glass elevators. The Bee Movie should have worked that in somewhere.

My grandmother's building has glass elevators. We can see the Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's home in Nashville) from it. Although now you mention it, the term lift is much more fun than elevator.

Lots of all glass elevators (lifts) here .. the ones that climb the walls of one of the hotels is scary to ride in for me .. but then I am not a fan of heights (just of you!)

Who knew! I love how you call it a lift! Wonder why we call them elevators? They really do lift you, er uh, elevate you - ok, so now I see. :)
