Skill And Crossbones

Please Take Down Your Flag, Ma’am

A Hampshire woman has been ordered to remove a pirate flag from her garden. Carol Clark, from Whitchurch, was told the skull and crossbones breaches advertising rules. "It's daft. I thought someone was playing a joke at first," she said. A keen sailor, she hoisted the black and white Jolly Roger after a friend gave it to her as a joke. But her local council says only national or regional flags may be flown without planning permission - because everything else is deemed to be advertising.

FOOTNOTE: Jolly unfortunate, Roger.

In Utah a pirate flag on Lake Powell means is that you party. (Clothing optional)

That's outrageous, especially sad in the "Live Free or Die" state.

Sounds like AVAST conspiracy, me hearties.

... remember your 'carp pooling' comment, David grin!

Yeah, um, ridiculous. See, if that were me I would just have to go out, find the biggest Jolly Roger on the market, and fly it from the top of my house.

Thanks for checking out my corner of the blog universe. I'm enjoying reading yours!

Makes me wonder if the powers at be think she's selling pirates out of her home. Seems like a silly thing for them to get worked up over.

Whatever happened to GSOH?

Well, I suppose the Jolly Roger is advertising of sorts. Of course, if I were sailing across the Atlantic and encounter ship flying it, I think I’d chose to avoid the product.

What would she be advertising, I wonder? Is her name Grace O'Malley, by chance?

She might try: "Argggghhhh, matey, 'Tis not advertising. We plan to rape and brutalize Hampton, soon's I get me crew. The flag only helps me recruit."
