Bridle Waltz

Saddled With The Responsibility

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

There’s just no explanation for what your eyes are drawn to. I took this series of shots at a shopping complex in Langkawi, Malaysia, while we were on holiday there in July.

Let me guess – you’re looking at this image and wondering why it looks kind of familiar. Right? Okay, if you haven’t quite worked it out yet, let me give you some more information.

It was part of a huge mural; painted all along the side of a store. All up, the mural must have been about three metres high (about nine feet) and at least five metres wide (about fifteen feet). Here’s a view of the whole mural – and you can now see why the first shot looked so familiar.

Inside the Levi Strauss store, the sales assistants were quite intrigued when I asked them if I could take a couple of shots inside the store – and came up to have a look at the results on the LCD screen of my Pentax. They particularly enjoyed the angle and the colours of this last shot and gave me the thumbs-up.

Maybe they figured I was getting ready for a Strauss waltz.

That was really good. I recognized the logo.
These shopping racks always produce some really good pictures, don't they!

That's a pretty good image. I still like to see that logo on the leather patch of every pair of Levis. Nice pictures. I agree with the sales people. That bright fuchsia is cheerful. Those are interesting hangers too. I've never seen ones with rings in the corners.

Cheers!

Oh wow that last one is cool! I love bright cerise / pink like that and next to jeans I just think it is so artistic. Not to mention the lines...

So, most of the people in Langkawi (as well as your family and all on the blog) now know that you are quite mad yes?

(I knew the logo was jeans, just not which make.)

Or fuschia as lee says.

It's pink ok? I'm a girl and I like pink. (*arms folded*)

Great shots David!
I have a photographer friend who does the same thing... always with camera in hand everywhere he goes and pops into shops just to take photos while the sales assistants look at him as if he's crazy! He never buys anything, just goes around taking photos!

That punch of pink is a nice juxtaposition to the old denim blue. So reliable, that blue.

I thought I recognized that old miner...and then I see Jeans hung up by pink contraptions...Mr. Strauss is spinning as we speak! But it's a good shot, no doubt...

I got the Levi picture right away, not bad for an old 'un, but then I was the very first girl to wear blue jeans in 1951 here in my home town, and in Barcelona in '56 was spat on by an old lady in black, guess she thought I looked pretty devilish in Levis

I recognized the Levis dude straight away. I am intrigued by the way they are displayed on those pink hangers.

Ahhhh, very creative! I need to take my camera with me more often when I'm out and about! I'm not as creative as you though and probably would have gone right past the Levis and not thought twice about using them as a post! Kudos to you for such a creative post!!!! I will now pay closer attention and I'll probably get the blonde jokes to stop too!!! Yehhh!!!

Being a photographer makes you look at the world differently. Logos, especially classic ones will never be overlooked. Of course Crazy Cath is right thuough. You are as mad as a hatter though, but that's ehy the blog is such fun.

Great shots and puns. There's also the Bridal Chorus, but that would be (Richard) Wagner.. not (Levi) Strauss. ;) Irresistible wordplay. Must be in our jeans.
