Verse And Worse

Random Wit, Errant Rhyme. Not A Literary Crime

Wordsworth and Keats and Coleridge and Byron
Were literary geniuses with all cylinders firin’
They wrote verse that encompassed both odes and sonnets
And the grandmothers copied them under their bonnets

Hi David,

Love the poem. Succinct, witty, and well done.

Yeah, and some of those grandmothers had quite a time climbing into their bonnets to copy those sonnets! Some bonnets are barely big enough to hold even pen and paper!

Grandfather: "Where's your grandmother?"

Grandchild: "She's climbed into her bonnet to copy sonnets."

Grandfather: "Oh for petesaks! Not again. Why the last time she climbed in a bonnet it took dang near three days to extract her. I hope she didn't climb into her new bonnet."

Grandchild: "It's that pink and purple one over there wiggling around on the couch."

Grandfather: "She'd be flopping more than that if she were stuck. What you say we go eat that apple pie while she ain't here to stop us?"

Have mercy. I took a class in college with those very poets as the focus. One day I wrote a similar poem on the board (not as good but similar). I can't remember all of it (it's been 25 years after all). It's probably just as well. The professor was not amused. Everyone else was though.
