Verse and worse

So proud and tall above the marble plinth
Stood a lead-crystal vase of water hyacinth
No rose-like aroma, no clustered azalea
The botanist felt like a miserable failure

Yet, the beauty of the flower made up for its smell, or lack of.

Woe is me!
The smell is not to be!
I gaze at the flower
Its beauty is the power.

Have a good w/e.

The beauty is for looking
Sadly, there is no scent
Standing tall a week later
The proud, strong hyacinth

This failure the botonist didn't deserve
Because of his clapped out olfactory nerve
So he got close to plants and breathed in like hell
And discovered a sweet and marvellous smell.
