Mrs Authorblog and our children are quite accustomed to me stopping and photographing odd objects and sights. This gear sprocket on a seemingly forgotten cycle is not your normal choice of a photographic subject - but to me it was a compelling sight.
Interestingly, many bloggers leave comments along the lines of "we really enjoy the fact that you photograph everyday objects and turn them into interesting images". I thank all of you who have have said that. Yes, I do truly believe that the most mundane thing can be presented as a compelling photograph.
There's beauty everywhere. Most times, though, we just walk past it.
(The Odd Shots concept came from Katney. Say "G'day" to her.)

I like this...
I never leave the house without my camera, and we always leave early enough that if I stop half a dozen times to take pictures we won't be late... :)
Yes, we can find beauty in everyday items and nature. There is beauty all around us if only we will open our lenses and focus!
Ornery just walked in as I was looking at this post and said, "so he's being a gear head today, huh?" He has been full of it all day! I love these pictures of every day objects. They help me to see things differently.

One thing I love about your images is that it has helped me to become more observant, to really see the beauty that is all around me.
I have only to look with that thought in mind and I will see something seemingly ordinary, yet beautiful (especially the sky). Thank you!
I want to thank you for saying that about ordinary objects and illustrating it so well .. and I am now pattiny myself on the back because I too was drawn to a cog of sorts .. but its not Monday where I am ..yet .. check me out tomorrow.
You make me smile: My family has been trained so long (and hard, they'd say), that by now they are pointing the odd photo opportunity out to me. :-)
Never, midst putzing with greasy bicycle chains, did I ever consider that they might possess some "inner beauty."
But you found it!
There's an odd sensation of movement in this shot...I feel almost dizzy.
That could be the illness talking, of course...
Amazing the things that we can find to photograph, I have to learn to do more of that.Great post
Great photo!!! Thanks for sharing it with us! Take Care,
Angela
SPROCKET it to us David.. I should think many folk will LINK to this.. it could cause a CHAIN reaction... A great picture for sure David.. sorry about the daftcomments... I just went off on a TANDEM.
If you think this bad wait till I call back in the morning to comment on the Pig post.. Stand By You Ham.. LOL
That's a lot of cogs in the wheel...unless that's not the proper term?
Odd shots indeed.
I totally agree with you. There is beauty in everything. I was sitting watching a movie staring at a wine glass and thinking how beautiful the wine looked swirling around in the glass. Simple pleasures are best.
Fab photo as usual David. and I have an award for you at my place. :D
I agree with you David - there is beauty in everything if we look for it. I, too, enjoy your photos just for that very reason.
Few people have the eye...you do.
You have an amazing eye. I love the water droplets on the red.
I'm beginning to believe that you can find the beauty and the beast, the humble and the outrageoud in anything you view. How lucky to have such an eye.

You've done it again, David. You have inspired us all to seek the odd patterns and angles that change a snapshot into an art piece.
Once again, as I was out wandering this last week, something just happened along that I couldn't help but post. It is incredibly fun looking at everyone's odd shots on Monday--or even on Sunday when it is Monday for you already.
Love the layers of the gear sprocket! Mine is up and very colorful.
Your photography is beautiful and inspiring, in many different ways. I am so grateful to have 'met' you, via the kind comment you left on my own blog, after my husband passed. Your kind words generated comfort and your art generates joy. Thank you for the double blessing.
Yes David, most are cogs in the wheel....while some of us are "clogs" in the wheel....
;)
CompleX and compelling. Perfectly titled as well.
I love those shots. It is such a gift, to see beauty everywhere.
Lovely shot again - as usual! I'm running late this week I'm afraid, or I'd have been here sooner.
Thank you for your kind words about my spinning wheel. Coming from you that means a lot!
I totally agree! Purposely carrying my camera EVERYWHERE (& looking thru the lens), enables me to stop and really see ALL we have in this world.
