Bridle Waltz

It's The Pre-Race Favourite

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

You know when you have one of those lightbulb moments, when something throws a switch and a little light illuminates your brain? I’ve often driven past this Melbourne landmark and it suddenly struck me that it would be perfect for this week’s representation of Camera Critters.

The horse that stands proud and tall above this old store has obviously been there for years. The shop is called Horse Torque And Lollies and I just thought it took its name from nearby Caulfield racecourse.

But then I did a little reading around the subject and found out that I was wrong. In its earliest guise, the place sold a wide variety of equine products and – judging by its location – must have done a roaring trade.

Check out the rules at Camera Critters or go to Misty Dawn.

Now look! I'm trying my best to get away from horse racing! It has been replaced with something better!
OK do you want another go at the race do you? I won't let you win it you know! Only girls and pretty ones can win my Grand National.
Loved the post David and interesting background.

And Eddie would gallop up to your post and neigh his way around. Yeah. Too true blood.

And Eddie beat me here!!!! I was going to put in my own two cents worth of Grand National jokes...but once again he has beat me to the punchline....Great post, David!! Isn't it fascinating the stories we find even behind things that we see everyday?!?! Have a great weekend! Janine

Enjoyed the post. It is interesting how we can pass something everyday and really not *see* it. Wonder what I missed today? ! :D

I am not surprised, you always manage to get good stories around everyday stuffs. :)

I have many of those light bulb moments, unfortunately, it's in the middle of the night! LOL! Note to Eddie: I'm up for another race - it's on! Have a super weekend!

The name of the shop is a pun worthy of you, Sir Knight.

Have you visited http://www.blogger.com/profile/13444125754967223180 ? His photographs are well worth a visit or even an award.

A very fine horse.
Vindaloo/Vegemite arrived all the way from India yesterday.
I have started reading it with great joy in the writing and a little bit of sadness at the hard lives of the Indians.
We were fascinated by India when we were there in March --but also a bit overwhelmed.
Will report more as I progress.

I had a friend, she saw a giant cow sign fall down. The giant cow sign was out front of a cafe. Nobody was hurt by the plummeting cow, they patched the beast back up and stuck him back atop the building. Good as new.

That is a lovely critter and I had to giggle at Eddie Bluelights comment! He got rid of my horse very early on!

You seem to be able to turn ANYTHING into a good photo and story!

It looks so heavy. I'm surprised it hasn't fallen.

You want to talk about ah-ha moments? I have Pentax lenses from years of film-using and the other day a co-worker told me she bought a Canon Rebel so that she could use all of her Canon lenses. I went to bed and woke up at about 3 in the morning and went aha! Maybe I can buy a Pentax digital box and use all of my lenses. I haven't done the research but it's sure worth a try. It is sort of humbling.

Torque and lollies? Does that actually mean something? Great 3D sign - hope it doesn't fall on anyone though!

That is quite a horse of a sign....I've only been to the race track a few times myself, once to the Kentucky Derby. Loved the energy and excitement.
