The Doorway To True Culture

The Soul of Melbourne's Arts Community Is Here

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

This is the main entrance to the Arts Centre on St Kilda Road, here in Melbourne. If you're a regular visitor to my blog, you would have seen a few representations of the wonderful spire above this building.

These shots were taken at first light last week. I just happened to be walking past when the rich colours and reflections of the interior caught my eye. The first shot shows the main doors and the foyer, while the image below is a close-up shot through the windows, of the beautiful interior.

It's rather jarring to open your blog and see the date Thursday, July 15 when here in the flatlands it's just the beginning of Wednesday.

If I came to visit you, would I be a day older?

I love it that you happened to walk by and taken these pictures. We might see, but we are not conscious of what we see; so, we pass these things by. Thanks for making us stop and take a look. Since I've begun to follow you, I now look more carefully around, becoming more aware of the light, identifying patterns. You are making us all a bit more observant. Thank you.

I have been having fun with my camera as I try to look at my world through a new lens. I try to notice and be aware of my surroundings - shadows, reflections, distortions...playing with my camera has forced me to slow down and 'see' my world ~ and what a wonderful world it is!

Whenever I see a beautiful or interesting door, I just want to go inside and take a look. These liquid amber images make me want to know about what goes on inside. What do you see? What makes this the place of "true culture"? Thanks David for sharing.

Btw Am I a day older [Pyzahn's comment] then a day younger when I go back to my own time zone? [Feel free to ignore my silliness. :- ] <3

I think I agree with the first comment, though I wouldn't use the word *jarring* I would use disconcerting! I wonder sometimes if I am suffering amnesia? Have I lost a day?

Lovely way that the colours flood through that doorway.
You have got me looking at doors & archways now!

It's so interesting to me also David, doorways and where they lead. Is this a museum?

The mop & bucket pay tribute to the cleaners who keep the shine shining!

When I hear of Melbourne, I can't help but think of the song by "Wall of Voodoo", called "Crazy Crazy Melbourne"

Melbourne
Crazy crazy Melbourne
You've got everything from restaurants to kiddie porn
And would I leave
Man, you must be kidding me
Unless you gave me a one-way ticket to Sydney.

It is sung in the Bill Murray-as-lounge-singer style.
