Sole survivors

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON (Image ID: Malaysia2010-3456)

So you're wondering what on earth I've shot here? They're just rubber beach sandals, displayed on a rack at a store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

By shooting really close up and by concentrating on the colours and shapes, there is a semi-abstract quality to the image. Hopefully it's the kind of composition that makes you look closer!

It feels like a cross between silk ribbons and plastic sun-blind strips - the mind can't register the textures fast enough...

I see what you mean about the colour - I had to look twice. Very vibrant picture.

Ah, I couldn't make them out until I read what you'd said. Now I see. :)

At first I wondered why you'd put up such a summery photo, and then I went "Duh!" It's pouring rain here - a dark and stormy day! Ick! lol

What? How did I miss your return? Do you know how excited I was to see you in my reader today? Obviously I should check it a little more often :-} Wonderful photo, so happy to see you.

I could seem them almost immediately though my first thought was colourful drinking straws. Great perspective.

Yes......I got this one straight away.
I like the colours you always shoot. They make very attractive pictures.

Don't laugh but when I saw the little picture in my reader, I thought they were some weird king of grass!
It's a great picture of an unusual subject

Got this one, unlike the nintendo one the other day.
Combining your last two posts one might say,

"These Flip Flops have been 'soled and eeled' LOL

Flip flops standing tall. Nice colors.

flip-flops... I knew it immediately! Sadly, flip flip weather is over for us...for now. ;)

and my word verification is 'chill' :) Brrr.

Thanks, Jinksy - so many colours to concentrate on!

david mcmahon said...

Thanks so much, CJ, I should have bought a pair as well!

david mcmahon said...

Aye, Brian, been there, done that!

david mcmahon said...

Glad you found the description relevant, Akelamalu.

Leslie, funny thing is, it's exactrly the same here. Bucketing with rain, and the temperature has plummeted.

david mcmahon said...

Thanks so much, Rajlakshmi, glad you like the result.

IBHH - how great to see you here. I didn't have time to make a big announcement, so just put my (blogging) toe back in the water gently, after more than a year away!

david mcmahon said...

Yes, Hilary, I can see exactly why that image would pop into anyone's mind.

david mcmahon said...

Thank you, as always, for your kind words, Maggie.

david mcmahon said...

Mimi, I'm not laughing. I can see exactly why you would think that.

david mcmahon said...

Hi Eddie, yes, I should have combined them!

david mcmahon said...

True, TechnoBabe .... you don't normally see 'em displayed that way.

david mcmahon said...

Betsy, ``chill'' is also applicable to our weather at the moment. Spring has vanished, the rain has returned and everyone is back in winter mode!

I thought it was silk ribbons too- in jelly bean colors. It makes for a happy photo.

david mcmahon said...

Nice thought, Joanna - imagine having jelly bean-flavoured flip-flops!

Talk about looking at something from a different angle and creating something new and amazing! A fresh approach is always good. You've proved that again.

Made me look closer. I love the colors - and that it is such a simple shot that offer such beauty.

Nice semi-abstract!

They are marvelous, what a great shot. Do you know that this is one of the few times I've been able to immediately know the context of perspective shot?

I saw the title of your post over at Hilary's blog (congratulations on the post of the week mention, by the way) and thought, "Oh dear, that is likely something heartbreaking. I don't suppose there's any chance that it's actually a picture of a cobbler's office..."

So I crowed with delight after I clicked the link :-) Take that with you today, you made someone crow in delight. What a nice thing to do for a stranger. Thank you.

david mcmahon said...

Jane, I had no idea about POTW - thanks so much for letting me know.

david mcmahon said...

Thanks so much, Gaelikaa - great to so so many familiar faces of good friends, now that I have returned to BlogLand after more than a year away. Very kind of you.

david mcmahon said...

Thanks, Ellen, for the visit and the huge welcome.

david mcmahon said...

Thank you, Midlife Jobhunter - the very simplicity of the shot was what attracted me to such a close-up.

david mcmahon said...

Thank you very much, Don - it was only possible because of the kindness of the shopkeeper, who allowed me to take the shot.

david mcmahon said...

Land of Shimp, what a generous thing to say - I only just found out about Post of the Day a minute ago, when I replied to Jane's comment. Must go over there and thank Hilary for the honour.
