BBC.com reports that the Ganges river at Allahabad has been flushed with fresh water from upstream to improve bathing conditions for the estimated five million devotees who have gathered to wash away their sins by bathing in the river during the Ardh Kumbh festival. Water from canals and dams upstream was released to clean the river to pacify the sadhus.
