Thin Edge Of The Wedge
Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON
A clear night. A crescent moon. A handy silhouette. And a camera just a few feet away. It's so easy when all the determining factors fall into place so neatly. This was taken a few hours ago, at dusk on Monday night here in Melbourne.

Beautiful! It captures the beauty of the moon and the vastness of the sky w/o being overwhelming. Makes me want to be outside tonight.
Just figured out why your posts sometimes puzzle me. I kept forgetting you were on the other side of the date line. It's early afternoon here in S. Texas and only Monday. :)
I need to get better at the different date and time thing. One of my favorite web places to visit is in Africa...that's a different time too.
Peace!
Aha! But it takes a certain kind of eye to appreciate such simple beauty, David, and obviously yours in right on!
Thanks for popping into my blog today - LOVE Melbourne, and look forward to reading more from you!
Hi David - Thanks for the visit to my blog.
Great photo! I love how the moon just pops out against the color of the sky.
Hi david thanks for the drop by my blog. I've bookmarked ya. Now you can be afraid. hehehehe
I love that picture, very beautiful!!!
Very cool pic. Also, thank you for visiting my blog and for your nice comment.
It's cool. I like that you can see the full circle of the moon.

Oh David, you inspire me to take more pictures!
Nice photograph. I really like the simplicity of it all and the sky color is one of my favorites.
Thanks to for your visits to my bogs and I wonder if you have seen the things I have added to my website?

ah, it is the silhouette that makes it so real - beautiful photo! :)
do you rememeber the song "It's only a paper moon "
I love the color of the sky.
Just lovely shot, thank you for sharing.
I can't quite make it out but you may have captured a planet in the pix also. Down low, at the bottom of the frame.?/?/ Not sure what's visibible in the land down under but up in USA there are five planets, the comet and the Space Lab visible w the naked eye.
Splendid:)
Great shot David! What lens did you use, and was it taken on a tripod?
I had taken a shot of the full moon about a couple of weeks back (http://theananda.blogspot.com/2007/10/luna-tic.html).
What i like in your shot compared to that is the perspective provided by the trees.
Excellent, especially including the tree to the side so the moon isn't the only thing showing.
wow
we don't get skies like that here
really fabulous. I have been trying to figure out how to get great shots of the moon. So far no luck...but I will do it someday. :)
Yesterday (Monday) i didn't have my camera with me, a shame as the sky was beautiful! Will have to see what it brings tonight, around 4.30pm.
Simply beautiful!

Cool. Went camping this last weekend and one guy brought a telescope and some powerful binocs. We were checking out this round smudge in the night sky. We were thinkin' it was maybe a comet. Very weird.
That is a beautiful photo!
Sometimes the moon looks like someone took a piece of paper and covered most of it up, and this picture is a perfect example of that.
For some reason, this picture really hit me. Not only is it beautiful, but it's also inspiring. Dusk is one of my favorite times of day, and on a clear day... well, your picture sums it up for me. Thank you for sharing!
