Mars Is His Mission

Naked Cowboy Wants Sweet Revenge

New York's Naked Cowboy is suing Mars (the confectionery giant, not te planet) for millions of dollars for "stealing" his image. Robert Burck is unhappy that a blue M&M was dressed in his skimpy trademark outfit for a video billboard advertisement. The ad, which shows the animated sweet in a white hat, boots, guitar and underwear, attracts customers to M&M's Times Square store. It is virtually identical to the outfit worn by the Naked Cowboy each day in Times Square, where he has become a tourist attraction. The candy-coated chocolate electronic alter ego has since disappeared from two video billboards.

FOOTNOTE: He's been spurred on.

Good morning, David! Or good evening in your case. :) I can understand why the guy might be upset. Was there any info on why the images went missing?

Peace!

Hmm...I'd think he'd be flattered.
It's a bit sad that people don't have anything better to do than be sue happy over something that is nothing. I hope the lawyers are laughing at him!

Have a good Monday.

So funny!! When I went to New York we stayed on Times Square. I've had the privilege (?) of meeting the Naked Cowboy and have photos to prove it. I thought he was pretty brave to be out there in the cold in his whitey tighties!

I'd go into a store with an underwear-clad M&M! That's too bad they took them down. Great Post, and love the keyboard pics.

My brother, daddy, and daughter have seen the Naked Cowboy in Times Square - he's not just a guy out there trying to make a buck. He's a fixture in Times Square; EVERYONE knows about the Naked Cowboy! I hope he wins his lawsuit.

But I still like M&M's. Aren't they all naked, tho? That blue one would have had to PUT ON undies and boots to be the Naked Cowboy. Odd....

Here in the South we say "nekkid".

I guess one of them will be seeking 'sweet' revenge ;-)

On the matter of this blue M&M: Was it the PLAIN version, or the one with a NUT inside of it? Because, if he was in his "tighty-whities" with his NUT showing, I might understand a lawsuit, indeed!

(At least they didn't portray him as a Brachs chocolate-covered CHERRY! Anybody who'd "dress" like that....?)

My wife wants to see that dude sometime during our July trip...I'll send photos!

I saw the Naked Cowboy in NYC a few years ago. A bitterly cold December day - and his bare legs. Brrrrr. I don't know how he does it!

Aw, I wish they had asked for Naked Cowboy's permission to use his image. I would have loved to have seen Blue M&M dressed like him. I have been to that M&M store in Times Square. It tickles my funny bone to see the M&M's all dressed up.
