Shelter Skelter

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On Me, Ed

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

Any idea what this picture shows? It's an abandoned umbrella, leaning against a brick wall. There's flecks of rust on the metal; there's grime on the fabric; there's dents on the chrome ring. And, more importantly, there's not a chance that it'll protect us from any kind of rain. When this caught my eye, I really liked the way the fabric had fallen, with two folds of yellow and two folds of white looking as though they had been artistically draped.

Yes, we had rain this weekend and already there is fresh green grass sprouting across Melbourne's lawns and nature strips. It's been a long, hot, dry summer with water restrictions in the severe drought. But it was great to see grey clouds and to hear the sound of rain. Maybe we'll have a wet March. Here's hoping.

Oh you are clever, David, to think of this cropped article for an angle. It looks just fantastic.

Hi
Thanks for visiting over at my "snow-filled" blog! Funny how we can all view the weather differently depending on what we're in need of. You are hoping for rain due to a lack of it. We are experiencing a drizzle-like rain, snow mix today. We're looking at it as rather depressing. It's been a long, long winter here in Michigan.
Here's hoping you get your rain and ours stops!

if I could send you some of the large storm that just hit California, I would. We are hoping to dry out for awhile!

I'll happily trade you a month of our weather for yours?

You have the eye for a great shot David, but there I go repeating myself again..

Hi David!
I followed link-after-link-after-link, and guess what I found- a North Point guy! Say hello to an old rival- I'm from St. Paul's, Darjeeling! What a great surprise this is. How long did you live in India? Are you still in touch?

Great blog you have- lovely pictures, all of them.

This umbrella looks pretty nice to me! I love its bright colors. Maybe it's standing there to invocate the god of rain!!

I'm waiting for the David's famous Pasta Chicken Bake. Seriously. Where is it?
The recipe you commented on is awesome, really. And easy.
Tapping fingers and waiting on yours.

Hoping along with you! We were under drought conditions last summer, but we've had more than ample rain through the winter to make up for it.

(Thanks for your get well wishes for my Rosie.)

you can have the wet we're experiencing now. although i'm rather enjoying listening to it, i do NOT want to hoof it to work during it.

and if you think *this* umbrella is bad, you should *not* see mine. it's more of a mesh design, thank you wind. perhaps i should get a new one. . .

How odd to think about it being summer! I love the colors of this and the stories that immediately spring to mind when I heard that it was abandoned.

Oh, how I long for green, we still have Decembers white although it has started to diminish.

Rain on you!

I saw this and immediately remembered how whenever we had lunch at the pub (The Royal Standard) out in the countryside, (they had outdoor seating )and if you didn't mind, the old resident goat would come up and steal your umbrella. He had quite a little pile of brollies, most didn't want them back after he had bitten through the frame! This was of course when we lived in England...and oh how I miss it.
