Tree's A Crowd

This Could Be Bloom Or Bust

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

The fruit trees here in Melbourne are a wonderful sight in late August and throughout September. Right now we're in the first month of spring and the colour palette has shifted from the pink blossoms to the white. Against a clear blue sky, they make a compelling sight. How can you walk past something as beautiful as this and not reach for your camera?

How lovely!

I almost sneezed. ;-)

Hi Nessa,

Thank you. I was so intrigued by the colours that I didn't test the aroma!

Hi Whimsy,

It sure IS hayfever season here. So that's why you were ready to sneeze (I think!)

Sounds funny to read you are in the first month of spring when we are in the last day of summer. Fall/Autumn begins Sunday, September 23.

Your fruit tree blooms are beautiful.

Mind if I take my husband through your blog in an attempt to convince him to let me upgrade my camera?

Gorgeous.

Yeah blossoms are so gorgeous. My peach is blossoming right now. So pretty. But i could never get a pic like that with my point and shoot. Your cam is digital - yes? A really pricey one?

Hi Andrea,

Our season are completely about-face with the rest of the world.

Spring starts 1 September, summer on 1 December, autumn on 1 March and winter on 1 June!

Hi SJ,

Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to photograph them thar fruit trees.

Let's have a look at the results. I've used a point and shoot and it's amazing the results you get in good light ....

Mine is a Pentax K100D, but a lot of the Canada shots I've posted are with a little 3MB Pentax Optio palm-sized Instamatic.

Hi Kimberly's husband,

Mate, sounds like you're going to be shopping around for a camera!

Seriously, though, Kimberly, you don't need a $1000 camera to take good shots, just as you don't need a $10,000 computer to write good prose.

I've published a number of posts relating to camera advice - but the trick is to work out whether you want a digital point-and-shoot or a digital SLR.

Let me know what you decide.

These are nice shots. Actually, I've been getting a lot (i.e. >70) of photos of these flowers as well, and am preparing them to make a photo story of a flower opening. Well, guess you beat me to it in some respects! :)

It's certainly nice during Spring time here in Australia. I've put up a post on my blog with a paragraph about that too.

But guess I am talking too much about my blog. Anyway, great pics. I'll check out tnchick again for the subject of the photo hunt this week.

Cheers,

David

Oh Thanks David, I will accept the assignment (!) and sift through for more on cameras.

Hmmm...not sure if you will ever find this comment here...seeing as it is November now! (Hopefully you get email when someone posts a comment on your blog - although in your case that would add up to a lot of email!) Anyway, here goes - I've finally completed my photographic assignment!

Unfortunately I didn't get to it while the peach was still blossoming but I managed to shoot a few apple tree blossoms.

I've chosen three of the least bad photos from 11 shockers to post for my assignment - which is here if you would like to take a look!

With Thanks,
SJ xx
