Wake Up Call

You Think You're An Artist? In Your Dreams, Buddy!

Imagine if you could draw like Michelangelo, but only sometimes. A man who sleepwalks is a talented artist when he's asleep - but he can't draw at all when he's awake. Lee Hadwin, 33, of Henllan, North Wales, can't remember drawing, and can't even recreate his sketches when he wakes up. He scribbles on anything - even walls and tables. He said: "I've been filmed to prove it's true. I've tried to do the pictures when I'm awake but they are rubbish." The Edinburgh Sleep Clinic said he was "unique".

FOOTNOTE: I've got more details, but they're a bit sketchy.

Wish I could.
If you CAN delude yourself, if only briefly then you must have SOME talent...
after all your own eyes see the results
(it's not like singing in the bath, where the critical faculty is totally disconnected)...

Hi Gledwood,

About ten years ago I suddenly discovered I could sketch and paint!

Dunno if there's a hidden meaning there!

But have a look at Helena's wor in the Sketch and Colour blog ( see link in the wildcards section of my post Aussiejourno's Weekly Blog Awards dated 29 September). Her work is great.

Keep smiling

David

My sister is a great artist. When she was in the RAF, she painted the ceiling of the barracks' Mess with a miniature version of the Cistine Chapel. Fantastic. They had only asked for whitewash. I wonder if it's still there.

That is strange, it seems similar to the whole hypnotism thing, that you cant get someone to do something they wouldnt do in a fully conscious state. Maybe with enough pressure or threat to his well being his inner artist would come out when he was awake.

Oooooh, how wonderful. I wonder if he's always been like that? Guess he found himself in tons of hot water when he was a kid (drawing on the walls, 'n all). I wonder if he also does this in hotel rooms, or when staying with friends??
