What A Friend We Have In Cheeses

The Last Auction Hero

One and a half million people have logged on to watch a round of cheddar cheese slowly maturing online. The 20 kilogram handmade cheese - named Wedginald by its creators - will undergo its nine-month grading test live on web TV on Thursday, when an expert cheese taster will pierce it with a special device to remove a core. The cheddar core will then be sniffed and tested for "depth and maturity". The Shepton Mallett cheese will be auctioned for charity at year's end.

I will admit, I've watched that cheese, classy fellow that it is!

Cheese is amazing stuff, and it's sad I live on the country with 'dead cheese'. I watched this whole program on the politics of cheeses and found out that onlu (mainly?) in America is it pasteurized to kill off what makes cheese cheese- all those wonderful living bacterium and enzymes.

In another context this could be called Art Povera! There once was a sculpture created by an artist associated with that art movement who placed a lettuce between two pieces of stone. As the lettuce perished the stones moved. So you see what I mean (hopefully!)
