You're So Vane

Do I Look Like I'm Crowing?

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

I guess it's not every day you get the chance to photograph a weather vane. I spotted this one last weekend and had to wait for the breeze to swing slightly, because I wanted to try and get the weather vane in the same frame as the giant ferris wheel. Believe me when I say I had to work like a contortionist to get the right angle. Hmmmm, it reminds me of the old joke about the two red blood corpuscles - they loved in vein!

I like when the individual seats on the Ferris wheel allow you to spin around in your seat, or even rotate over the top in a cage.

Hey, here's a question that popped into my head, David. Is "south" ever at the top of a map, rather than the bottom, down under?

That is lovely to see, David. It wasn't in vain (vein? vane?) that you waited for a very nice photo.

You have not worked in vane, lovely framing. :-)
Would you have a photo which shows the building with the vane?

You just don't see many vanes these days.

I know because I've searched in vain

It must have taken a lot of patience to get that shot. Very nice. I like weather vanes but I would have never imagined a weather vane framed by a ferris wheel.

Take care, Carver

Good thing no tornados were brewing or that picture would have been a lot harder to take. ;)

Cool pic David.

What a gorgeous shot! How lucky to have lined it up so nicely with the ferris wheel. You are one talented writer/photographer.

Thanks for sharing that great photo.

I seem to be bumping into you all over the place so I thought I'd drop in.
And what did I find? A multi-talented fellow! Great, now I'm feeling terribly insecure again.
Your photos are very nice, by the way...

Nice weather vane, I keep meaning to get one to put up on our workshop. I am a bit of a weather buff and would like a full grown weather station but a weather vane will have to do. We have quite erratic winds here and I think it would be interesting.

Thanks for the get well note. I am fine now.

David,

That might be the only time in the history of the world that a rooster weather vane and a ferris wheel have appeared in the same photo.

Congrats on the one of a kind shot.

Hi David,

Do I Look Like I'm Crowing? Yes sometime :-), when I go to bed, I get your first post before the Sun rises in Australia.
Nice shot and I loved all the pics of Sunsets in your last few posts.

Take care,
Pijush
