Should We Follow A Colour Chart?

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

Sometimes even the most mundane sights provide the best photographic opportunities. I was sitting at my computer when I looked over at these felt-tipped pens and realised they'd make a great picture. More to the point, I wanted to photograph them from an angle that would compel you to look at the shot and try and work out what it depicted. It's an interesting depth of field too, because the two at the forefront are in sharp focus, while the rest just fade to a soft blur.

That's a good one. I would not have been able to guess. This also reminds me that not only do I have to learn how to operate the camera properly and take good pictures, but I also have to develop the "photographer's view". It is a long way. But I will take you advice for someone else who left a comment on your blog and try to enjoy this learning curve as everything else in life.

Nice markers. You seem to find someting asthetic in most things others overlook.

Nearly 14 hrs ahead of me-- you are waking up and I am ready to doze, so I occassionaly lurk for a good nite pix. I think you are reaching here in your photographers view in that you just ran out of interesting things. You are better than this, really. People overlook markers for a reason---boring. Yawning for now but will lurk another day.

Never get disheartened when you're on a learning curve.

Do keep in touch

Hi momkiss2u

Yup, 14 hours is a strange time difference - I'm so glad you visit to check out my pictures.

Really appreciate your sentiments. ``You are better than this, really'' is always good advice.

Will be posting another shot shortly - do let me know what you think.

Keep smiling

That's what drew my attention to the shot. We obviously are drawn to the same sights!

My first thought when seeing this image was "Printer colour cartridges". I do love the depth of field effect. So often we see images and ignore them because of their mundaneness yet they have their own little bit of beauty if seen with a practiced eye.

I am slowly gaining the confidence to use a soft focus with some of my photography. I had a choice between a sharp and a soft rose image today and I went with the soft - because it inspired a little poetry.

Reminds me of the feeling I used to get, opening a new box of crayons, fascinated by all the colors. Now these kids can sniff these markers and probably get their first high. We used to eat those crayons every once and a while. One wierd thing replaced by anoither. Time marches on.
