Who Wants To Be A Milliner

These Hat Stores Are Brimming With Ideas

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

Tell you what. Next year I might take a month off at Spring Racing Carnival and design hats - and sell them, too. As you can see by these hat boxes, everyone who is serious about being seen at the races needs to have a hat. We're talking big money, too , but that's the price you pay if you want instant cred. And once you've got the hat your heart desires, just make sure it's clamped securely to your head, because it's very breezy at this time of year.

Hi Casdok,

For some strange reason I actually remember that they are called bodkins!

How about I sell the hats and you sell the hat pins?

Deal?

I love the hat boxes themselves! Very colorful and I could do something crafty with them, I would just need to think about it!

I have to fess up here, I have quite a collection of hat boxes, hats I've bought for weddings or baptisms mainly. I use them a lot, or at least, the girls and thier friends do; I get them to model them for our "photo-shoots", it's great fun!

I have a couple of hats David. I have a camoflauged hat for hunting, I have an aussie style hat for fishing, and I have a nice baseball hat for when I want to "dress up". LOL!

People sure do buy a lot of hats it seems. All you have to do is find the right niche.

So what did the hats look like that were inside the boxes?

some people collect old 1920 30's millinery boxes - gorgeous I worked for an antique store and the box outranked the hat at times !!

That's a wonderful idea! Maybe sell them 3 for the price of 2, a seller's hat trick of sorts. Throw in the odd bodkin.
