Sent To Coventry

Tractor Attracter Has The Charm Factor

So you reckon that your traffic woes are bad? Like Deborah Gamble, you can take comfort from this story. Hundreds of frustrated drivers found themselves stuck in long queues as a German man towed a caravan behind his tractor on a 1100 kilometre pilgrimage from his hometown, all the way to Britain. Wolfgang Mueller, 65, drove his restored 1963 Massey Ferguson 35 at an average speed of 20 miles per hour to Coventry, where it was built. Parisians had best beware – Mr Mueller wants to photograph his tractor in front of the Eiffel Tower on his way home to Germany.

It would drive me nuts to get stuck behind that!

Oh, dear, a ride in the country in Austria often means a ride behind a tractor. If you are lucky. If not, a herd of cows will cross the road, or geese. Haven't seen turkeys since my childhood, they probably all heard about that great Thanksgiving Feast in the USA and migrated there (poor birds, terribly missunderstood the concept).

Tell you what; I think tractor drivers love holding motorists up. They never pull over and let motorists pass in my experience.
BTW my Ghost Post is up :o)

Oh no Ruth, our tractor drivers cut us as much slack as they can around our parts, bless 'em.

That said.

How come it's always only our parts all these nutters decide to flock to???

could be worse....at least it wasn't built in Australia, or the US. That's a traffic jam you'd REALLY want no part of.

Now you're gettin' into MY area of expertise!

20 m.p.h. ain't a bad overall average for a 35, with even the slightest load! Must've tied the governor open, just a tad-bit!

Actually, the M-F 35 is a "cute" tractor, when they're all cleaned and waxed!

Admittedly, though---that much distance certainly would tax the patience of most anybody! Even a "tractor-freak" like ME...!

I would put it on a trailer...

But that's just me :)

Hi Ruth,

There is a certain stoicism to being a tractor driver and looking straight ahead.

Will check out your ghost post shortly.

Hi Carol,

We're going to put up sign al round Britain saying ``Oi, tractor drivers, this way to Carol's place''!!!

I found rural traffic very courteous in the UK.

G'day Brian,

Now there's a thought! How long would that stream of traffic be!

Hi Bruno,

Love the detail you;ve gone into there. I thought I'd see a comment from you on this one!

I did wonder about the speed, so thanks for clarifying the issue.

I can just picture you doing the Germany-UK drive and blogging about it every day. Now there's an idea for you...

I knew there was a simple solution to it, somewhere.

I'll get in touch with him and tell him it was your idea!
