Brew Ha-Ha

This Coffee Tastes Like Crap, Mate

Yes, we love our coffee in Australia, but we've saved the most expensive for last - and it's crap, literally. Kopi Luwak, made in Indonesia from coffee beans excreted by native civet cats, is reputedly the world's rarest and most expensive coffee, painstakingly extracted by hand from the animals' forest droppings. The civet cat brew has just gone on sale in Queensland, selling for $50 a cup at the Heritage Tea Rooms, west of Townsville.

Good Grief!!! Yuck. Some people have more money than sense.

Whilst I've been over here in the States, I really, really miss Moccona Instant Decaf Coffee. I'm on my last jar now. And, oh yeah...Barbecue Shapes. :-D

I've actually discovered Mexican Milo which is not quite the same as home in Oz, but close. :-D

WEIRD- my parents were talking about this just the other day!

Mummy has just taken up coffee again. After about 15 years of just tea, she suddenly got a yen for it.

WEIRDER!

I know it is the second time I've said it this week, but truth really is stranger than fiction. And in this case, quite disgusting! But, I think you've inspired a blog....So thanks!

hrnbyzpcHi Darlene,

I love the smell of coffee but will not drink it, ever. Now I know why!

Hi Marianne,

My sentiment exactly. Milo, though, is fairly popular in our house.

Intresting to see from your comment that Mexican Milo is not quite the same as ours.

And nothing could replace Barbecue Shapes!

Hi BTBear,

Just make sure your Mum doesn't go anywhere near this coffee!

Hi Debbie,

Yes, exactly. I had to check the fact just in case it was some elaborate hoax.

I'm all for preservation of the civet cat, but this is going a bit too far.

You know what they say: what's dung cannot be undung!

Thing is, I know someone who's tried it and said it ain't that bad, once you get over the idea of where it came from.

I think it would be a case of stew this brew and rue!

Hi Ozlady,

Stew the brew and rue? I wish I'd written that!

It'd be a bit like a kanga rue, hey?

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. I spent first 18 years of my life in Kharagpur and still my parents are staying there. Thus it is very special for me.

It has one big institute, Indian Institute of Technology, one of the best Engineering colleges in India. But I guess we are asking about the railways System Technical School, which is only for the railway workers. It is still running very good and Kharagpur is one of the biggest railway towns in India.

I like your posts. Please keep writing.

Cheers,
Pijush

Hi Pijush,

I can see exactly why Kharagpur is so special to you. It's a bit like why Calcutta is so special to me. We never forget where we're from.

I'm glad you enjoy these posts - and yes, I will certainly keep writing.

Hey,
How could you say that it tastes like that! I love that coffee. I find this extremely offensive and my dad makes that coffee and i love it!!!! That is a disgrace to my family. Thanks for nothing!

You have a poor taste in coffee if you don't like it! But I guess you can hate it. I just love it... and yes, I have a lot of money!

I love surfing blogs and I happen to come across yours. Great blog but how could you not like the coffee...It's so divine and delicious ITS SO GOOD!!

OK....
That coffee review guy has got to get a life. I don't find the coffee terible, but it's not good either. I am a low coffee drinker, unlike everyone else in my family who has like... five cups a day. I'd just end up getting sick.

See ya.

Hi coffee review guy,

I'm a tea-drinker - and not just because I went to school in Darjeeling.

I love the smell of coffee - but don;t drink it in any shape or form.

Glad you like the blog - hope to see you back here to debate the finer points of coffee and other things too!

No ``grounds'' for complaint!

Hi Darlene,

You've just solved a major mystery. I had to type the word-recognition keyword and knew I'd typed it correctly, but it didn;t show up in the box - now I know where I typed it!

What a dunce!
