Go For Technorati's Figure Of Authority

I've just explained this to a fellow blogger and thought it would make a timely post as well.

What is the new Technorati Authority system and how does it apply to my blog?

On Friday May 4, Technorati.com introduced the Technorati Authority for listed blogs. The Technorati Authority number (shown in green) is simply the number of blogs linking to a website in the past six months. As Dorion Carroll explained in his post Technorati Authority and Rank on Saturday May 5, ``The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has''.

He also highlights an important consideration in this regard: ``It is important to note that we measure the number of blogs, rather than the number of links. So, if a blog links to your blog many times, it still only counts as +1 toward your authority. Of course, new links mean the +1 will last another 180 days.''

David, what are the benefits to having a "high" viewer rating, other than the obvious personal one? Is it soley to do with carrying advertising?

Hi BTBear,

That would be the authority to host a teddy bears' picnic! Naaaah, in all seriousness, it refers to how Technorati views the credibility of your blog - and your credibility as a blogger.

Am just about to post a Tech Talk item about how to sign up at Technorati. Watch this space.

Cheers

Hi Robyne,

I would love to! Check out my post titled `Shun Sign' from weekend before last - about the woman who refused to buy an autographed copy!

That post has a link to my ``take'' on the novel and how I wrote it.

There are also a few references to the novel in older posts on my blog.

Thanks for taking the trouble to ask!

Cheers

Hi Shrink,

Will do a Tech Talk post to provide the long answer. The short answer is that Technorati is pretty much the blogging Bible.

The more blogs that link to yours, the higher Technorati will rate your work.

Cheers

I signed up to Technorati in Novemeber....

now I rank 272688.

Hmmm....

don't think I have much "credibility as a blogger" at this rate. LOL!

Hi BTBear,

That's pretty darn good, in my book. Honestly, none of us are in this for the ranking, are we?

If we were, we'd post 10-15 links on every blogpost.

At the end of the day, the fact is you have a terrific blog. A good rank is an added bonus!

Cheers
