Here's another shot from my India trip. I was walking through the New Market in Calcutta, when I saw this display of cotton salwar kameez outfits. I asked the shopkeeper if I could possibly shoot a few frames inside his shop and he readily agreed. I took three or four shots, but this one was taken from the best angle. The shop was called Furnishing Centre, and the owner's name was Binoy Lall. The New Market was a magical place to me as a child, so it's no surprise it gets several mentions in my novel, `Vegemite Vindaloo'.

Oh, this brings back so many memories for me! Before moving to the Isle of Man, I'd dicovered the joys of Tooting market. A hobby of mine is interior design (especially soft furnishings), and I especially adored the bolts of beautiful cloths there..
I dragged my poor hapless friend down there, to stock up on metres and metres of cloths, sparkley ones, multicoloured ones, spider-web thin spun ones, gossamer bright ones.. I was in paradise!
Lugging five, full black bin liners back to the car, was another story, but we managed. Most of my house has started life meant as sari-cloth! I still have a remanaint or two left over, waiting for inspiration.
Hello David and greetings from whodatdare! I just posted a picture on my blog and was hoping you may take a look at it and tell me what you think?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
John
David, what's happened? Is everything alright with you, my friend?
You visit everyone's new posts, until recently. It is a huge committment, which you have graciously taken on board, and we all understand if this has become too overwhelming to continue. I just want to know if you are okay, is all. I hope so..
I like it David. I recently posted some pics on my blog so if you get a chance stop by and give me some tips. I am always open to advice.
AND I'm hopefully getting your book soon. Lots of waiting when you order something from the other side of the planet, ha.
I love this photo David. I am really loving these colourful ones from the markets - it's the textile fanatic in me!
Hi Shrink,
Tooting? Yep, know it well. And there is nothing in the world that outranks sari cloth.
I want to read this story as a blogpost on your site. We're waiting .....
Cheers
David
Hi Whodatdare,
Ceryainly. No problem. Will do it in the next 24 hours. Look forward to it.
Cheers
David
Hi Carol,
Naaaah, it's all good. Have been run off my feet the past three days, which is why I haven't had time to say hi on people's blogs.
Big day today as well - just got back from the TV studios. Took part in a TV quiz show on a national network.
Playing catch-up - with no real cance of succeeding for the next couple of days. Tomorrow and Thursday I am booked in after work for speaking/ motivational engagements at two schools.
Busy, but enjoying it all!
Please pass on the word that I'm OK. Have you heard from Copper?
Thank you so much for your concern.
Keep smiling
David
Hi Dan,
No worries at all. I'd love to do that - will do so in the next 24 hours. Looking forward to it.
Very exciting about the book - do let me know when it arrives.
Cheers
David
