Let’s All Marvel At These Stamps
The post office in the small southwestern Colorado town of Marvel has been flooded with requests for souvenirs of the new Marvel Comics super heroes stamps. The post office began selling commemorative envelopes on Saturday. Postmaster Cindy Crosby said she's had calls and letters from across the country and some avid collectors even drove to the town from as far away as Las Vegas Monday. She has ordered 500 more envelopes, for a total of 1,000 to meet the demand.

David! :)
Those stamps must be a dream collection for adults and children alike. I guess they could boost the snail mail for sometime...
Thanks for adding me :)
Nice to hear from you again.
I didn't know about that Aussie author Dave.
I am however very interested in the Dambuster saga as I have a great signed photographic panorama of the entire 617 squadron and groundcrew in front of a Lancaster with my grandfather present as an aircraft electrician.
Its a very cool keepsake.
wow, cool retro stamps, they sure bring back memories and flashbacks!
No worries dave.
I don't have it with me here in the old dart, it's back in oz.
I will follow your post's with interest.
The Guy Gibson story is a ripping yarn too, if you get the opportunity to read it.
This inspired me I to search for the first ever superhero stamps (cries: get a life!).
Cleveland OH issued Superman stamps in 1998, Cleveland being his birthplace (supposedly).
But the Canadians got there first, their Superman stamps date to 1996.
And weirdly, both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan issued Superman stamps in 2001.
Full philatelic goodness here

Bet y'all really wanted to know that.
WHERE did you get the pic that you display with this article?
A couple of things to mention about it:
1. It isn't the pic that appears on the USPS site (I took a sneaky look)
- AND -
2. Superman was always a DC Comics character (the reason I took the sneaky look)
I'm sure there's a story to tell ... ?
To piggy back on Fletch, the picture didn't fully load (on dial-up) but the ones I saw with this article were ALL DC characters. Yes, I'm a comic geek, or was in the nineties. I saw Green lanter, wonderwoman, batman, superman - all DC characters.
cool!
david, what a coincidence that i too have a stamp up on my blog today to celebrate 300 posts!
cheers

Hi Mona,
I have some great stamps and first day covers in my collection. Must check to see if they're still in the house.
Thanks for reminding me!

Wow, Mur,
You'll have to ensure that it always stays in your family. That is something so totally historic.
Hope it's in (very) safe storage.
Man, what a keepsake.

Hi Ms Creek,
Glad your move went well and that the cats are well settled.
Yes, the stamps are very retro, aren't they!

Hi Mur,
Guy Gibson, from memory died in Holland with his navigator when their Mosquito crashed.
The Dutch have a monument to him and I think a walkway or lane is named after him as well.
Interestingly, he was born in India. I've got some great background info on him. Watch for mention of his dog in my post.

G'day Chertmeister,
I am fascinated by all that stuff. It's way cool.
Will check out the link. Thanks so much for all that interesting info.

Hi El Tel,
From memory, I got the image off the USPS site.
Just cropped it so it was a horizontal image showing two rows, rather than a long vertical image.

Hi Victorya,
Ah, we're all comic geeks, aren't we? And if we're not, we should be!

Hi RK,
Interesting coincidence. Our stars must have been aligned!
Congratulations on your 300th post.

Yeah, those are all D.C. characters, not Marvel. You need some Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Daredevil... Ok, I think I've proven myself to be a bigger geek than you now.
G'day Diesel,
You're a good man - and geekdom is a good thing.
Have fixed the problem and am just going to acknowledge it in a separate post!
Keep smiling
David
