Hang It

This Just Gets Curiouser And Curator

Two abstract paintings may have been hung the wrong way round by curators at the Tate Modern in London. The paintings by Mark Rothko, from the Black on Maroon series, have been hung vertically with bold stripes running from top to bottom. Despite the location of the artist's signature, the correct way to display the works has never been agreed on.

I expect it will make me a phillistine but I'm sorry, Modern Art leaves me cold. I have seen the Rothko's and try as I might, could not imagine how huge canvasses, painted in vertical layers of dull colours could ever be claimed to be worth millions of dollars. Those panels were oringinally painted by Rothko to decorate a friend's restaurant, then some wily art dealer thought...ah! If I say these are art, no-one will dare to say no, they are not, for fear of looking artistically illiterate.
I feel the same about Tracey Emin's unmade bed.
FFF and I do not agree on tis at all. But how can you call Damian Hirst and Rembrant artists in the same breath?

Oh dear or dear Moannie!! I LOVE the Rothko's having seen 7 of them, and it wasn't the art itself that appealed, it was the way I they made me feel!! all dreamlike and calm actually....I know its all subjective...Emin, well I relate to her on some level (and I shall leave that there) but I like her honesty and her courage to say and not hide behind the work...she takes no prisoners and that's brave...I missed her first retrospective in Edinburgh but will follow it hopefully sometime..

Ive seen Hirst calf, it was interesting and some of his owned work is very 'traditonally modern' actually...

I've listened to artists talk (at the gallery I work in) and interestingly many say they wouldnt dream of telling people what to think about their works, just to let them 'feel'...and I do...

some art leaves me cold...but I would never say I could do that...cos l haven't and they have!!
its all very interesting...anyway you look at it...(pun!)
LOL

in my heart I guess l'm a traditionalist, whatever that means...
