Spin Doctor

Where’s A Number Cruncher When You Need One?

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

At the outset, let me assure you I am no gambler. I don’t care about racehorses. I couldn’t give a fig about greyhounds. The gambling gene simply passed me by. Simple as that.

But I was in Dawson City in the Yukon recently and of course I had to check out the historic venue Diamond Tooth Gertie’s, famous not just for being a non-profit casino but also for its excellent floor show. This shot was taken just before the cabaret started, while I was trying to get the best results in low-light conditions.

Yup, you could say I was gambling on the light.

I don't have the gambling gene either. No one in my family has it. Doesn't mean we don't appreciate the challenge of a good game though.

Nice shot. I have been in a casino a time or two but the idea of a non-profit one is interesting. What does the money go to? Wish more casinos gave their earnings to charity.

Cheers!

Your picture goes with my words, thanks!

Equilibrium

Wheel of Fortune
spins faster,
centrifugal force
flinging us away
from its epicentre,
the point of stability,
leaving us to find
our own individual
centre of calm.

Me neither..... maybe an odd lottery ticket but nothing more. It is all to do with the genes, isn't it? Compulsive disorder or something.
Makes a good picture though.

I get very lethargic in casino type places...sensory overload.

however, a few years ago while on a cruise...I watched an elderly man winning a several hundred dollars on roulette. He taught my daughter and I the nuances of the wager.

Now I always play a few rounds of roulette...and I always place a bet on 22....smile...

Casinos hold no allure for me! It's too hard to earn to throw it away in a casino. Loved the photo!

A non-profit casino is definitely an interesting idea. Does this mean it's easier for gamblers to win and/or do the proceeds go to charity??

Have never played this! Love the picture!...not enough to entice me to go out and find one though. My luck I'd lose my way home!

Ohh i've never been to a gambling den, David. But i wish to be into one -- not to play though but take photos. Am sure there are many interesting objects inside as photo objects. Thanks for sharing this photo. Nice one.

Have fun in Ausie and happy new year!

Did it turn out as well as you had 'hoped'? I think it's great!! I don't seem to have a gambling gene either, tho am sure some might say I've gambled with my life a few times, sigh.

Happy New Year!!

I am not overcome with Gambling...I don't have to join Gamblers Anon or any such...but I do like to lay a bet and sometimes join a pool...and of course there is the Lottery...hmmm...okay so maybe Gamblers Anon might not be a bad choice, after all.
