The Meteorite Ate My Homework

The Sky’s The Limit

A fourteen-year-old schoolboy in Essen, Germany, survived being hit by a meteorite. The teenager was rushing to school when he saw a massive fireball heading straight towards him from the sky. The chances of being struck by a meteorite are just 1 in 100 million.

Ach! Better odds than the lotto, wot? The lad's got some bragging rights. I've seen of the lightning striking humans but ne'er a meteorite! Astounding!

I don't like those odds..... even though it seems a bit remote!
Mind you, not many people could brag about being hit by a meteorite! Would any one believe it?

"The chances of being struck by a meteorite are just one in 100 million."

Is that right? So since earth has roughly 7 billion people at present, one in 100 million means that there must be 70 people currently living who have been hit by meteorites.

I trust your journalistic inclination will cause you to set out shortly to verify this tidbit of information. Report back as soon as you know.

Perhaps I read it wrong. Perhaps it means one in every 100 million meteorites strikes a person, not that one in every 100 million persons is struck by a meteorite.

Please clarify.

Good heavens. I think if I was struck by a meteorite, I would take the day off from school.
