Passengers Are So Multi-Skilled These Days

Do We Have An Engineer Aboard This Flight?

British holidaymakers were saved from an eight-hour flight delay after a fault on their plane was fixed by a passenger. The man, on board a Thomas Cook flight from Menorca to Glasgow, identified himself as a qualified engineer and fixed the problem.

FOOTNOTE: Quick fix.

Guess it pays to have an Engineer on board, along with a Doctor. Scary stuff.

It's only scary if the problem's discovered after you leave the ground. Although, I will say that the most unnerving thing I ever heard on an airplane was when the pilot of a commuter flight I was on came on the cabin speaker and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, we'll be underway as soon as we can get out starboard engine started."

Not the kind of thing you want to hear as you're waiting to take off.

And that probably scared a lot of people. I'm glad he was truly a trained engineer and not some nut. I can remember having something happen on a flight I was on, but miraculously we got down, and all was fine. I think angels must work overtime on airlines.

Had I been on the flight I am not too sure I would have been too happy flying after someone put their hand up in seat 30c and said ''I'll fix it Guv!''

I am already the kind of flyer who believes my entire concentration is needed for the entire flight because If I stop for even two seconds we might fall out of the sky ;0)

how on earth did they let this become public knowledge....

Well I'm glad he wasn't an odd job man but it is scary even so.

I think the scariest was when my son was flying from Japan & emailed to say the plane was delayed because of a faulty under carriage. It was repaired in a few hours. Of course no one knew for hours if the undercarriage would be working properly! Phew! It did.

Note to self: DO NOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES board a Thomas Cook flight.
