Plastic Fantastic

Yes, There's Beauty In Mundane Objects Too

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

So why did I take this shot? Not just because there were two crates stacked neatly on top of each other, but because the geometrical aspect appealed to me. What geometry? Look carefully at the shot and you'll see large squares in the mid-frame area, but smaller diamonds in the top and bottom sections.

It also intrigued me that there was a topsy-turvy orange crate in the background, which gave me an interesting counterpoint as far as depth of field was concerned. Just because something's a grey object, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a grey subject as well.

Yes, I know I'm getting into a grey area here ....

There's a lot of beauty in the mundane -- you just have to have the eye to see it (and then explain it to the rest of us)

Well done!

Grey matters! :-)
Beautifully framed geometry.

When I saw the name "Parmalat" printed on the crates, my white matter jolted my grey matter into overdrive: Parmalat is an Italian company! I needed to find out whether Italian joghurt is being shipped from Italy all the way to Australia. The search engine whirred and spat out that I need not worry about transporting milk products halfway around the globe: There is a "Parmalat Australia Ltd"!

"Parmalat Australia Ltd (formerly Pauls Limited) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Italian based global dairy company, Parmalat SpA, having been acquired by public takeover in August, 1998.

Pauls has a proud history in the Queensland dairy industry, commencing in 1923 when an ice cream factory was established at West End in Brisbane under the "Peters" brand. Pauls Polar Perfections was established at South Brisbane in 1933.

Fascinating stuff - far from the days when poor Italian immigrants arrived at the shores of faraway continents!

I guess anything ordinary looks interesting when you take the photos, David but when I take them, they can be very uninteresting!
I do tend to look at things differently since I *met* you though! Maybe I am on the way.......!

There is nothing wrong with grey. We get a lot of it, here in the UK. Originally all photos were black, white and grey.
