Too Many Pink Gins

Hairstyle's OK, Dulcie, But That Colour's Wrong

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

This shot was taken in Montreal's Gay Village area, way back in 2005. I was on a very tight schedule that morning, as I had to check out of my hotel and catch a flight to Toronto, where I had a rental car waiting for me to head out to Muskoka for a few days.

But I'd been told by a friend that I had to spend at least half an hour photographing the sights in this part of the city - and there was certainly no shortage of things to shoot.

This huge figurine was on an exterior wall and I took this and a couple of other frames from the main street. Maybe it was a punk rock venue. Or a pink rock venue.

Walking past her she gave me a wink
As she sat there up on the wall
I thought I'd only had one drink
But now I guess I can't recall
Her hair was a odd natural pink
She had to be at least 10 feet tall
I didn't really know what to think
Compared to her I seemed so small
She asked me to click on her link
And if I wanted to have a ball
It seemed like we were so in sync
Just like Saints Peter and Paul.

Ah, but the hair color works with the outfit and the flowers! What's a girl to do!

Fun, fun shot.

She looks very life like, but that hair is a give away in more ways than one.

You came to my town!!!

The village is a great part of Montreal. It was falling into dereliction until the area was "taken over" by the gay community. Now it's a wonderful neighbourhood, with great cafés, restos and bars. I love it there.

Wonder if she's ever caused a traffic incident.

A fun and colorful shot. Montreal is a place I would love to go to one day.

Now that's something you don't see every day. And no mistake.

Except that dye job. Big mistake.

Yes, in San Francisco on the wharf. It is a very pink production.

I can imagine seeing something like that in New Orleans. Quite a sight.

You can find interesting subjects to photograph wherever you go it seems.
Another good picture.

You sure get around. That was my neck of the woods - we're just an hour and half from Toronto. And the Muskokas - aren't they lovely?!

How funny. When I saw the picture, before I read the commentary, I thought it looked like a REAL person I saw someone post from Pride Week in San Francisco. Definitely an interesting photo opportunity.

Your friends were right: It would have been a shame to miss any such sights.
