Mercedes Bend

Normal, In A Roundabout Sort Of Way

Police officers rescued a woman driver from a roundabout in Germany after fellow motorists said she'd done at least 50 circuits. They used two police cars to guide her off at one of the exits after motorists called them to say she kept going round and round the roundabout in Braunschweig.

Would you arrest her though? Wouldn't you be too amused? Poor love must have felt rather stupid!

For years, New Jersey, in the USA, was the butt of jokes because of all of the circles we had. Most were finally removed and replaced by normal lights for traffic control, but just recently some fool engineer has decided to bring them back and no one knows how to navigate them.

There must be something seriously magnetic about the Braunschweig roundabout... or gluey on the woman's steering wheel.

Was she maybe North American?

They just installed a roundabout in the area where we have our cottage and most people have no clue how to use it.

To think how much more fluid traffic could be if we installed roundabouts rather than stop signs. And of course, if people had a clue.

I've done about 3 circuits a few times when lost, but some of the roundabouts here in UK are confusing to say the least! Anyone ever heard of the Magic Roundabout?

I've been there! When I first learned to drive in GB...had a terrible time getting accustomed to driving on the opposite side, and negotiating roundabouts! Round and round I'd go, gathering steam and courage to make the merge onto the nearest motorway...too funny! Thanks for the laugh, and also so much for stopping by, David! And for your comments! You are amazing!

That more or less sums up why I never learned to drive...Hate roundabouts...

I heard about that. I would have been in the same place. My brother was stationed in Maryland a few years ago, and we went to visit. I was horrified to find myself on a roundabout. We don't have roundabouts in the states!!!!! The only reason I'm not still on the thing is because the Mountain Man was navigating. I still have nightmares.

You don't have roundabouts in the states? I often wondered if they were really necessary! Sam - I start singing the music to the magic roundabout whenever we go round a roundabout more than once - apparently when you're driving and trying to find the right turning it's not particularly helpful... I think it's pretty much compulsory myself.

Some times round abouts are more confusing than being helpful. In middle eastern countries they have a roundabout almost at each furlong. In Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman where I spent a good amount of years, they have too many roundabouts. Getting their country's driver's licence is another problem as the laws are stringent for driving and for following road rules; as Luxury cars running on plush glass-like roads make it necessary to have driving control. Accidents are almost always fatal on these roads.

Looks like our friend's Mercedez had a permanent Bend in her steering wheel. So it remained bent at the roundabout for 50 rounds. Perhaps the police did something to her Steering wheel that steered her out of the roundabaout.
Amusing post. LOL

I laughed myself silly over this. I can see myself there... in a panic going around and around. I would not know what to do at one other than to keep driving. Poor thing!

They just put a new one in our little suburb last year. I can see some elderly person getting in it and not understanding how to get out. Bless her heart.
