Orange County

Hands Up If You Speak Mandarin

A cash-strapped college student in China paid his course fees and living expenses - with five tonnes of oranges. The male student drove two truckloads of mandarin oranges more than 130 miles from his family farm in Quzhou. Thanks to local media coverage, he sold out in an hour.

As I try to come up with the final $4865 I need to pay for the last bit of this semester's bill for my third child out of 8 byt Tuesday, I am able to laugh! I'm looking around the house to see what I can sell! Actually, I'm a teacher and I tutor my brains out to help with college costs! This young man should earn a scholarship for ingenuity!

I wonder if my tutors would go for the same payment...

That is simply amazing. He basically MacGyver'd his school money.

And it's stories like this that give college students such as myself, a special hope. When all else seems lost, try something really wild, it may just work.

I'll never look at fruit the same way again. :)

Now that's what I call a motivated student! Wonder what my lot would do if we couldn't scrape the school fees together? (Probably celebrate by going back to bed..)
