Donation Damnation

Too Late For Mass Communication

A Polish priest has gone on strike because his parishioners don't leave enough on the collection plate. Father Piotr Lenart, parish priest at Deszkowice, stands in silence in front of the congregation for 15 minutes during Mass. The problem began two years ago when the priest asked for donations to rebuild the church car park.

"Gospel truth..."

Hehehe

(That is actually very sad and materialistic. But your footnote is hilarious.)

If the collection picks up, maybe this means the parishioners prefer silence to the sermon!

Wild. And funny. And true. Our church--an inner-city Episcopal Church that was the seat of social power in a once industrial, once strong city--can't pay its bills on members' contributions but leans on the endowments left by the barons of industry 100 years ago.

But nobody gets the silent treatment there. Our rector acts on the assumption we're all doing our best!

Ex-communication, huh?

A little silent contemplation in church each Sunday if one doesn't put money in the plate, or a long boring sermon if one does ... hmmm. What's the incentive to contribute?

Perhaps the good Father should filibuster, and only shut up when the plate is satisfactorily full.

Our net is up. I'm back!
