The Great Catsby

Purr For The Course

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

You know the feeling, don't you? You're on foreign soil, concentrating on photographing one particular object - and another passes by at speed. I was in Singapore in December when that I experienced precisely that situation.

I was walking down a street, taking shots of some vibrant colours in a doorway, when I looked to my right and saw this taxi drive past. On top of the taxi was a prominent sign with a painting of a cat and the exhortation: "Save Lives, Sterilise."

The taxi was about thirty metres ahead of me when I realised there was a traffic intersection ahead. I had my fingers crossed that the cab would be caught at the intersection if the lights didn't change before that.

Could I sprint the distance and draw level with the cab before it started off again? As you can see, I did - but the focus isn't great on the shot. Just blame it on my Carl Lewis impersonation, okay?

I hate it when you see stuff and it's about to disappear and you can't get to it fast enough. Good on you for being able to sprint to the shot! It's great! And love the title!

I would love to see you in action, sprinting about all over the place and getting these unusual shots. However, I have a vivid imagination and can just picture it!

You caught it! Not a bad job considering all. I hate to admit I get shots like this often in what should have been perfect conditions!

The sign's potential for laughter was worth your efforts!

Save lives - don't run towards intersections with a camera in front of you face...

oops, just realized you weren't IN a taxi but walking. Sorry! I should have read closer. Sometimes I speed read a little too fast.

Another critter in your own unique vein! Glad you sprinted. How on earth do you do it with two cameras, a foot-tapping family and busy streets? What an image... lol

I can just picture you sprinting down the street to get a photo of this. Hehehehe - sorry, I can't get that image out of my head.
