Trivia Pur$uit

Between 1973, when Bjorn Borg made his Wimbledon debut, and 1982, when he lost to John McEnroe in his sixth consecutive singles final, the Swede won 41 consecutive matches at the spiritual home of tennis. In that decade, only four people ever beat Borg at Wimbledon - Roger Taylor, Ismail el Shafei, Arthur Ashe and finally, McEnroe himself.

When Mummy was a t school, she had a friend called Nina who had two Goldfish: one called Bjorn and the other called Jaws.

(This was the late 1970s)

Bjorn ate Jaws and a legend was born.

Hi BTBear,

Did Mummy and Nina storm the tennis courts with all the other teenagers - to try and get close to the real Bjorn?

Cheers

David

Hullo DM! (Hey! DangerMouse!)
No, me and Nina were about 9 when Jaws came out!

I did see Connors v McEnroe in the early 80s, though. I still have the fridge magnet that I bought in the shop that day (school trip). It's a cat, dressed in Wimbledon colours and carrying a racket. Strange choice of animal for that association, now I think of it.....
