During World War II, an unknown Army Pay Corps officer, Lieutenant Meyrick Edward Clifton James, who bore an uncanny resemblance to Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, was part of an MI5 deception to confuse German intelligence. In 1954, he wrote the book `I Was Monty's Double', which was turned into the 1958 film of the same name. Fittingly, Clifton James played himself and Montgomery in the movie.
