In The Driver’s Seat

Some People Are So Well Trained

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

So there I was, just standing on the platform about 10 days ago, wondering what I should photograph just to provide a slight variation on this weekly theme.

And while I stood there pondering the possibilities, my gaze moved to a Connex suburban train that stood on a nearby platform. Strong colours. Good light, even though it was fairly cloudy. Then the penny dropped – that’s just what I needed for the theme.

I did have my long lens (a Sigma 70-300mm) with me, but my normal everyday lens, a Sigma 18-125mm, was more than adequate for the tight frame that I wanted.

It was only when I shot this that I realised train drivers have to have doors on both sides of the carriage!

LOL .. of course they do .. cause some stations - at least here - have a center platform for express trains whilst the other platforms are for the locals...

And this way the engineers can track the passengers access ..

I'm still trying to sort out which part of the door I'm looking at. Any photo that has me staring like this has to be considered a winner!

Thanks to Shadow I got it too! LOL! You have such a way with the camera as well as with words! Well, it's your life I suppose! A very different take on the theme, and I love it!

That's a totally different shot for a door. I like it!

Indeed they do! Incidentally, not being a camera buff myself [ point and click] the shutter keeps getting stuck after our trip to England [a combination of sand and damp I suspect] and there's an incomprehensible message about 'apeture' and percentages.....digital is great until you don't know what you're doing any more :)

Very good. You would think that you were standing right next to it though by the clear picture!
Had to take a long hard look though to see what handle belonged to where!

And lovely doors they are, too! That is the brightest blue I've seen and looks awfully good with the yellow...great shot, no matter which lens you used! You rule, David!

Lovely photos. Enjoying the blog.

Thanks for commenting on mine yesterday. I read the series and it's a really great, informative set of posts.

Now I'm off to find your book...

Wow. That is very interesting. I think our busses only have doors on one side. Our trains though, they have doors on both : )

Thats a neat shot David.

You're right, they do have two doors. I never thought of that.

The colors on this and the boat hull are fabulous.

You didn't know this? Also the cars have doors on each side as you never know where they will be docking.

It's funny how when you're actually near a train you don't really notice all the details on the doors, or anywhere else. You're just concentrating on getting on without tripping and falling into the tracks. Who knew they were so interesting?
