Is It Spider Pigski?
Or is it the new trotsky! A monument to a pig has been unveiled in a Russian region famous for its sausages. Nikolay Astanin, general director of the local meat industry in Kalach, said: "We wanted to thank this wonderful animal for all it has given to the area." The giant meat processing plants in Kalach were opened this week 80 years ago. The monument in Kalach is said to be Russia's first dedicated to a pig.

"Maybe a case of all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others?"
Goodness. I'm sure the pigs would prefer a different sort of thank you, but it's the thought that counts, I suppose.
i used to live in russia and i've never known people more into creating monuments than the russians. i'll have to add kalach to my itinerary the next time we travel there!;)
I began to laugh until i realised we have the Big banana, the Big lobster, the Big merino... sigh......
A round of polska kielbasa on the house.

Will they also ensure the place around the monument is kept filthy, as the 'wonderful animal' of Kalach would have liked?
Hmmn. I rather doubt the pigs will appreceiate what this monument actually represents.. perhaps it should have been of a pork pie?
"The monument in Kalach is said to be Russia's first dedicated to a pig."
And I thought they had monuments for Stalin?
Hi, David, thanks for swinging by my blog. I appreciate it, even if I've been bad about making it around to see yours :) I'm really enjoying your posts, but this one made me laugh because it reminds of the giant statue of a boll weevil in Enterprise, Alabama.
Apparently, if you build it, they will come!
The have a LOT of monuments dedicated to one friggin' pig or another over there. Some of them were puylled down a while back, but not all of them.
