Lavender Brew, Dilly Dilly
Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON
We're almost halfway through spring here in Australia and the gardens are beginning to take on all the familiar colours and perfumes. Lavender is an old favourite for Melbourne gardeners, with many varieties showing the distinctive spikes. They look great in vases as well. I tend to use them with long-stemmed roses and the lavender always makes a stately statement.

Beautiful photo! I love the aroma of Lavender too and of course, the color.
We are supposed to be in Fall season now but looks like Summer is continuing with so much heat. I don't see much of Fall colors either!
Enjoy!:))
I love Lavender. It's really good for alot of different things. Have you had it in tea? Have you ever been to Kathrine Dunn's site? She is an artist and lives on a Lavender Farm with her husband in Oregon. I love her stories and art. Check out her Donkey Dreams Pinos Pies website also. She is on my list. Have a Blessed Day! I finally have my first photo in a blog entry today. Have a Blessed Week!
This photo is stunning. I love the angles and the apples in the background. Lovely!
You can almost smell that shot...beautiful color, perspective, and arrangement David.
Beautiful flowers, and as I recall, a beautiful song inspired your title. I once had to memorize it for a piano recital. That was a few eons ago though, and I've managed to let go of the trauma.
What a gorgeous shot! I love lavender...actually I want to try cooking with it some time. And with apples in the background...hmmm, I think your picture has me conjuring up a recipe in my head. :)
Nice photo David. We have a small garden that is full of lavender - makes a nice show this time of the year.
We are also at the same stage as spring as you, but have just had a cold snap with snow on the Drakensburg. Strange country this, but I love it
The smell of lavender always reminds me of coming home. Our house in London had a bush planted right by our front door. Everytime I put the key in the lock, it fragrance greeted me. I really should plant some more.
Nice shot!
The sack cloth under the lavender just makes it so rustic. I love this photo, it belongs on the cover of a book.
You should make lavender pillows to send all your blog friends... :-D
PS I just read that moths swarmed Canberra. How close to a photo-op are you, David?
thththbbbppppt.....
That's a big raspberry from me.
You know, I once had flowers... roses and sunflowers....
Then came the deer this year and ate them all gone.
Yes, I am jealous! But funny thing is, they don't touch the lavendar! LOL
Loverly picture mate!
Slainte~
Rachelle
it reminds me of the Lavender Fields near Seiku in Washington State.
Peace, Kai
Your photos are all amazing!!
I love the beautiful lavender with the orange and yellow fruit in the background. Absolutely gorgeous contrast!

Hi Flassie's Fil'a,
I've heard of lavender tea, but I've never tried it - not yet, anyway!
Will check out Katherine's site.

Hi Kimberly,
I never heard to do a piano recital (which is probably a good thing) but my elder brothers enjoyed the music of Herb Alpert.
VERY distinctive!

Hi Mary,
Thanks for visiting and I'm glad you liked the shot.
I've never cooked with lavender but I guess it would be fantastic as an ingredient ....
Let me know when you try out the recipe in your head!!

G'day Max,
Sounds like your weather patterns are as unstable as ours! It was spring and balmy y'day and today it's blustery and cold.
But I love the weather here in Melbourne - four seasons in one day, 365 days a year!

Hi Carol,
What beautiful memories to associate with a great plant. Yes, go on, plant some more.
Shall I come round and dig'n'plant, for you?

Hi WFW,
That's pretty much what I was thinking when I walked past it. Out came the camera immediately!!
I'd love to see something like this get published in a book.
Maybe when I've finished writing these novels ...

Hi Les,
Lavender pillows? Why didn't I think of that.
Canberra is a 1400km round trip. I think I might have to do it tomorrow, hey!!

Hi Rachelle,
Thanks for making me laugh. Deer don't eat lavender? I guess that's the same sort of thing that means bears don;t eat cranberries!

Hi Kai,
Well, I'll just have to get me to Washington!
Peace to you too

Hi Bradley's Mum,
That is very high praise. Thank you for those kind words.
Bradley did mention that you told him about this blog, so it's great to hear from you.
I love photography - even though I've only been doing it for just over two years. It brings me great joy, so it's wonderful to know it brings you joy as well.
