Breaking Up Is Art To Do

Travelling Museum Celebrates Spirit Of Splitsville

A travelling museum in Europe, devoted to failed relationships, is gathering exhibits as it goes. The Museum of Broken Relationships asks people to donate mementoes of everything from short flings to painful divorces. Yesterday in Berlin, an axe used to break an ex's furniture was added to the 300 exhibits. "Everyone can relate to it," Berlin organiser Zvonimir Dobrovic said.

What an original museum, probably a mixture of sad, funny, interesting, and downright frightening exhibits.

It's a bit nilistic, isn't it? It sounds a bit too negative for me, I'd still like my kids to believe in happily ever afters.,however unlikely it might seem.

I did know of one person who hid a kipper behind her ex's radiator; the poor man spent ages trying to work out where the terrible smell cme from...and (not sure if this is an urban myth or not) heard of a mother-in-law who thought her daughter-in-law didn't keep the house clean enough. She reputedly threw mustard and cress seedlings behind the sofa and sprinkled on water so that next time she visited she could check and see if her DIL vaccuumed behind it.

That is sad on so many levels! I do so want it to be happily ever after.

Hey Carol, if you think that way, then maybe they should take the museum on the road to Nhill! :)

The main character in the book I was listening to this morning said that all relationships are doomed to end one of three ways:
1) break up
2)divorce
3) death

What an uplifting thought. And perfect for this museum.
