Meanwhile, Back At The Branch

Yes, You Can Even Find Beauty On A Grey Day

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

On a murky day like today, I was wondering what to photograph at lunchtime and then my attention was drawn to this tree (above). It just looked like it was awash with green.

A couple of months ago, the branches were absolutely bare and dark brown, so I thought I'd get a little closer to give you an idea of exactly how the leaves are fringed in a gentle arc.

Like I always tell budding photographers, look around and you'll always find a great angle somewhere else - normally it's a different point of the compass from where you start. Then I spotted this red wall (above) which made a great background.

And I finished up with this shot (above) just to capture a beautiful Melbourne spring sight, even as the rest of the world is gearing up for winter. I hope this photo essay brought a smile to your day.

The red background is really good, changes the whole perspective. I really like it.

I agree, that backround completely transforms it.

Finding colours on a grey day, that are as gorgeous as these, which do not seem as if all life had been drained out of them, is indeed an art. Beautiful. :-)

Nice photos. I prefer the 1st and 2nd pictures - I can still remember my web usability studies telling me that "green on red is the worst possible colour combination"!

Colour on a grey day is so uplifting!

The contrasting red is really changed the picture. Excellent.

Just dropped in to say that you have been awarded a prestigious award. Pls check my blog. :-)

Ferns are some of the most ancient types of trees. I think they are also the nicest looking.

I love going out on grey & murky days to take pics of nature. The colors sometimes seem to come alive at that point. This past Monday it was ready pretty steadily here, so I grabbed my camera and headed out. I loved what I found!

Yes, you can definitely find beauty on a gray day. My kids think I'm crazy when I look around on a cloudy, drizzly day, and proclaim it a beautiful day.

I love the green, and the red background is wonderful.

I also wanted to let you know I gave you an award.

Love the pictures, and I'm a "budder," having just discovered my eye with a camera a couple years ago. Every day I learn something new by plan or by chance and regardless, I take in every lesson.

I love that you are just getting leaves back on trees, and we are losing ours! it's all about balance, isn't it?

Once you immerse yourself in the passion of photography, you tend to look at everything and picture a beautiful photograph. At least, that's the way it is with me. I've taken photos of plain weeds, and had my husband tell me that he thought it was an outstanding shot ;-)

Wish you were here to capture some of our glorious fall colors!!!

Have a great day!

Stunning photography. Thanks for visiting my blog but now I must bow to your talents! And your sense of humor will keep me re-visiting your blog. My fave was about the man buried with his mobile phone sans card! We usually just place favorite candy bars in our family's coffins. :O)

That's lovely, David. Isn't it interesting how some of nature's shades of green seem heightened in dreary weather?

I'm a lover of dismal grey days. I love how the beauty of simple things stands out against that backdrop. Beautiful shots.

Are those the leaves that close when you touch them? Amazing background.

Hey, great job on the pics. It is nice to see spring, it seems so far away from where I am!

I tell you, I'm gonna live this winter vicariously through your wonderful pictures! How warm is it there now?

I love, and prefer, the first two pictures - it seems so natural and perfect.

You have captured luxuriant green wonderfully well on a murky day to cheer up the mood. Brilliant!

david?

if you touch or handle those branches, do the leaves close up, as in fold together?

i was given a young plant once that looked much like that tree you have posted...but it would fold closed if i touched the leaves..

?

sometimes a simple spread of colours can change moods like that..I love greens ..they look different when the sun is shining on them or when its washed by the rains
