Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHONIf there's one thing I enjoy, it's going right up close to compose a tight frame. But occasionally there is the need to pull back and just shoot a whole scene, rather than one segment of it. I was drawn to the texture of these hats, but opted for this view of the whole display instead. Yes, I know that less is more, but sometimes more is more as well. I think I've grasped that concept - more or less!

I really like this photo. Did you take any other angles because I'm interested in what it might look like with hats filling the entire view screen. I agree that the colors and textures of all the hats together really work! This is a neat picture.
I know a few tack shops and Western stores in my area that would gobble that photo up...Nice shot David! You captured the texture and colours of the hats so beautifully...

You are so right, David, about this particular photo. What I cannot figure, though, is how one gets the hat of your dreams off the stack without causing a total tumble.
Great composition. I always have the same dilemma - how much do you include in the shot. I've actually found it interesting to experiment with wide-screen (approx. 16:9) photography by digitally cropping my photos on the computer. As the emu photo I posted recently shows, it can be an effective technique.

I kinda want to jump in there and re-arrange them a little better based on shade but that is my own issue lol
White hats - good guys
Black hats - bad guys
Brown hats - sad Australian rugby supporters.
