Petal To The Metal

Gotta Have A Splash Of Colour

Photograph copyright: DAVID McMAHON

The winter blooms in my garden are dying off now and the summer colour is emerging. In the next couple of weeks the roses will be looking great and the entire garden will have a wonderful perfume. So you're wondering about these gerberas, right? Look, I'd like to say that I grow gerberas - but it would be grossly untrue. These were photographed in a vase.

Gorgeous flowers!
The winter blooms? All I can look forward to here are the frost patterns on the window panes (euphemistically named "Eisblumen", ice flowers, in German, defiantly or as an act of desperation, that is the question).

Yes, I love the vibrant colours - like merisi, I can only sigh as you talk of the approach of summer, since it's winter that is tapping at our doors over here..

Those are gorgeous colors, beautiful flowers. Unfortunately, all I'm seeing is dried up, dead flowers since fall is here. Of course this weather still feels like it's summer. Are you going to take any photos of the roses after they bloom? I hope so!

Love the photo David.

I understand it, but it's still strange to contemplate your emergence into spring as we begin fall. The good thing is that both are filled with beautiful colors.

Gerberas... never heard of them, but they are gorgeous. The must be a daisy "relation"? Daisies are my favourite, the Plain Jane ones with white petals, because they don't think highly of themselves - they just are.

Hi Merisi,

How about a post on ice flowers - that's such a wonderful concept.

Now you've got me thinking. Really dunno if they're related, but I suspect you and I are related!

David, you should have seen my smile when I saw this post. What a great day brightener. I love Gerbera Daisies. The colors just seem so over the top and impossibly cheerful. Thank you for sharing!

I grew gerbers in Mississippi--so did my neighbor. These are just as lovely as any still in the ground.

I do feel much better, thank you. I've had my last antibiotic pill for the day and am off to bed.

Before I go, I couldn't agree more with your choice for Post of the Day. I don't know how you found it, but I'm so glad that you did.
