Ice Age Mastodon, Going Cheap
Maybe the Governator will buy it. Nancy Fiddler of California has listed on eBay a mastodon skeleton that takes up most of her garage. The minimum bid: $125,000. Her family's relationship with the Ice Age relic has run its course. She said they need the money an online auction could bring, and her son would prefer to build hotrods in the space the creature now occupies.

I wonder what the history of the mastodon is. Once doesn’t often encounter one in private hands.
Do they take paypal?
I mean, really....I hope the size is at least listed. What if it doesn't fit?
You know, ordinarily if one were to store the remains of dead animals in one's garage, the story would raise more of a stink.
Where does one find a box large enough in which to ship a mastodon? And what is the postage going to cost!? I wonder how it would look in my classroom?
Wacky. Thanks for sharing.
I heard this on the radio. The bones were found on their property some years ago. I would have thought that they would have been picked up by a museum long since. Had it been found more recently, things owuld very likely have been conducted differently.
Some mammoth bones were found on a ranch in our region and it has been the subject for study for at least two or three years. http://www.cwu.edu/~masters/mammoth.html
And then there is Kennewick Man, who has been the subject of debate and lawsuits for nearly twelve years since he was found. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kennewick_Man Not my favorite source but a summary of the situation at least.
What a coincidence...I have one in my garage!
I would be honored to have you as a manager David;)
Now THAT"S clearing out the old junk!!!
geesh, if only i had an extra mastodon skeleton to sell on eaby! i just really can't spare any right now!
penelope sitting in for gerald till his neck is repaired
We keep our mastadon in the attic - it was just taking up too much room in the garage. He's doing a good job of keeping the mice away up there.
I don't have a garage - do they come as with them as standard?! What is amazing is that they are worth that much money, seems like a lot.
Why did she have a mastodon skeleton in the first place? I prefer to collect shoes. LOL
Man that would be cool. I'm afraid I don't have the bread though.
I've seen some strange stuff on EBAY, but that "bag of bones" may take the cake.
I was just in the market for one!
