Track Her Down

She Thought She Was A Rail Sleeper

A Belarus woman survived being run over by a 90 mph train when she fell asleep between the tracks after celebrating her birthday. The 32-year-old said: "I'd had a few drinks and felt sleepy and just lay down on what I thought was the ground. It felt very comfortable, but I later found out it was between two rail tracks and an express train went over me during the night. I didn't even hear it." Emergency services were summoned by people who were convinced she was dead.

FOOTNOTE: Dead tired, almost.

Gives new meaning to the commuter's phrase, "rocked to sleep by the rhythm of the rails".

What a story. There was a similar one which happened in New York City. A man fell onto the tracks of the subway train just as the train was to arrive in the station. A very kind man, jumped onto the tracks and held the man down, protecting him from being hit by the oncoming train! A similarly amazing story.

What is difficult for me to imagine is how this woman couldn't have awakened even when the train was approaching. No wonder people thought she was not alive!

Life is full of miracles and lessons! We just have to be aware enough to recognize them!

Thank you for sharing this beautiful story.

That's incredible!

I wish I were able to sleep that soundly. Then Neil would get up with the kids more. Heh.

Did a post in tribute to you today!

Another idiot. She could be the poster child for sobriety. She does not need to drink. Just saying. Have a great day David. :)

oh my word! I have at times said and thought I was so tired that nothing would wake me...but this! I can't even imagine. I wonder if she feels a new chance at life now.

I'll bet she's glad she isn't a sleep walker!

I pride myself on being a good sleeper, but she's a champion.

I think that beats me and my room mate when we arrived in Positano on Halloween. Apparently, fireworks were going off right outside our balcony window and both of us slept right through it. Then the next night the same thing happened, but we weren't quite asleep and when we heard the racket, we couldn't believe we'd slept through it the night before!

That's amazing. And good for her she didn't toss and turn that night.

Goodness it's a wonder she didn't get killed. I can't even begin to imagine someone sleeping that soundly. Thanks for dropping by.

Ha! (Note to self: avoid vodka at next birthday bash). I always find such wise words here, David.

She must have been exceedingly drunk to not have heard a train...
