More Spudnik Than Sputnik

Shanghai Space Potatoes Are On A Mission

Want a hot Valentine's Day gift for someone? Order a space spud from Shanghai. I had to chuckle at a story on Kirotv.com about the purple Chinese space potatoes that are becoming the latest fad in ultra-trendy Shanghai. Interestingly, enough, this crop of spuds was bred from seeds that mutated aboard a Chinese spacecraft during one of the country’s two landmark manned missions.. The Shanghai Daily reports the spaced-out potatoes are being offered for Valentine's Day dinners, served crispy fried, or even in iced drinks. China's space program has successfully completed two manned missions and is a great source of national pride.

FOOTNOTE: London commuters might enjoy space spuds. After all, they love travelling on The Tuber.
