Who Wants To Be A Pillionaire?

Absence Makes The Art Go Honda

Photographs copyright: DAVID McMAHON

With yet another 38 Celsius scorcher, I figured I'd take a photograph that told the story of just how hot Melboune can get. I took my camera out at lunchtime and saw a good friend of mine, Macduff, with a 800cc Honda VFR. Let me paint the picture for you. There was this gleaming blood-red bike, with the paintwork and chrome reflecting the harsh summer sun. I'm wilting in the heat, despite my proud Indian heritage - but Macduff, a crazy Tasmanian who revels in 42 Celsius scorchers, is grinning from ear to ear. He started up the Honda and there was this low, pedigreed rumble as she idled onimously. Then I noticed that the bike even had a temperature display, and as you can see below, it was 34 Celsius, even though it was only 1pm. There you go, there's your summer picture for you.

PS: And if you look really carefully at this shot below, you can see Macduff's craggy features reflected in the tacho.

RIDICULOUS FOOTNOTE: If the tachometer had a warning chime built in to indicate a problem, would it be a tacho bell?

Hi Lotus,
You're welcome to the heat. I've spent the past four days sitting under a giant ice block.
We could swap!
Cheers
David
