Trivia Pur$uit

Back in 1897, a 23-year-old American arrived on the goldfields of Western Australia. He stayed there for two years, working as the first mine manager of the Sons of Gwalia gold mine. His name was Herbert Hoover and he later returned to the country of his birth – and went on to become the 31st President of the United States. His old goldfields residence, the Hoover House, has been restored and part of it is now a bed-and-breakfast retreat.
